A celebration, an emotion. The tenth edition of Granfondo Internazionale Briko Torino – Memorial Luca Ferrero has given two very intense days to all those who love sport, not just cycling. The Motovelodromo of Turin welcomed the participants of the Granfondo with open arms, the perfect headquarters for the preliminary and post-race operations.
The tribute to the Grande Torino
The two-day event began on Saturday, when Vittorio Mevio, president of Gs Alpi, laid a laurel wreath at Superga to pay homage to the Grande Torino 76 years after the tragic plane crash, a spontaneous and dutiful gesture by the organizing committee of one of the most popular sporting events in the Piedmont city. Together with the president, Paolo Pistono, sales specialist for Briko, Michele Viggiano, brand manager for Briko, and Nicoletta Savio, head of events at the Motovelodromo in Turin and daughter of the late Gianni Savio, a historic face in the world of professional cycling, team manager and founder of the team that, in recent years, was called Team Androni Giocattoli-Sidermec, also laid a laurel wreath on the plaque commemorating the football team.
The emotion for Michele Negri and Luca Ferrero
A week after his death, Granfondo Torino wanted to pay homage to Michele Negri, a cyclist who passed away during the Granfondo di Bergamo.
In fact, Michele had won the Granfondo di Torino last year, so this year he was expected to start with the number 1.
The race number was not assigned: ideally, Michele continued to ride with the group of amateur cyclists he loved so much.
Starting in the first grid were the cyclists who contributed to the Cottolengo structure, thus honoring the Memorial Luca Ferrero, a great friend of the organizing committee.
The race
Despite some rain in the early hours of the morning, the approximately one thousand cyclists who signed up for the race were able to pedal in maximum safety along the streets of Turin. Granfondo Torino, which blew out 10 candles in the year in which Briko turned forty, is the only amateur cycling event that takes place within a metropolitan city, and for this reason the organizing committee deployed more than 250 volunteers to guard the 115 km route, starting from the avenue adjacent to the Motovelodromo di Torino and arriving on the Strada dei Colli, also known as the “Panoramica” of Superga. All participants competed with the technical jersey provided by Briko: among the guests at the start, there was also the former professional Fabio Felline. The race was therefore a great celebration for all the participants. Among the authorities present at the race were the councilor for major events of the City of Turin, Domenico Carretta, and Fabrizio Rostagno, head of the management of the Motovelodromo of Turin.
The Granfondo was won by Manuele Caddeo, representative of the Om.cc team, who won with a final time of 3h12’54”. Alessandro Finocchi, a rider from Team Stefan, finished in second place overall, while the podium was completed by Matteo Raimondi, Caddeo’s teammate at Om.cc.
The women’s race saw the success of Roberta Bussone, representative of Rodman, who finished with a time of 3h21’25”. Second place went to her teammate Sabrina De Marchi, while Olga Cappiello (Santini Squadra Corse) obtained third place.
The day ended with the time trial in the Motovelodromo: the kings and queens of the 2025 edition of the time trial inside the Turin track are Sabrina De Marchi (Rodman) and Emanuele Bruzzo (Pontedecimo Ciclismo).
